Tip to be prepared:
Good nutrition before working out first thing in the morning is crucial for several reasons:
-
Energy: Eating a balanced meal before your morning workout provides your body with the necessary fuel to perform optimally. Carbohydrates are particularly important as they are the body's preferred energy source during exercise.
-
Performance: Proper nutrition before a workout can improve your strength, endurance, and overall performance. It can help you push harder, for longer, and get the most out of your workout session.
-
Hydration: Hydrating before a workout is essential for maintaining performance and preventing dehydration. Drinking water though out the day and before exercise can help ensure you are adequately hydrated.
Good nutrition after working out is just as important as pre-workout nutrition. Here are some reasons why it's crucial to refuel your body with the right nutrients post-workout:
-
Muscle recovery and repair: After a workout, your muscles need nutrients to repair and rebuild. Consuming protein after exercise provides the essential amino acids needed for muscle protein synthesis, which helps repair and grow muscle tissue
-
Replenish glycogen stores: During exercise, your body depletes its glycogen stores, which are the primary fuel source for your muscles. Consuming carbohydrates after a workout helps replenish these stores and ensures that you have energy for your next workout.
-
Reduce muscle breakdown: Intense exercise can lead to muscle protein breakdown. Consuming protein post-workout can help reduce this breakdown and promote muscle recovery and growth.
-
Hydration: Replenishing fluids lost through sweat during exercise is essential for maintaining proper hydration levels. Drinking water or a sports drink after a workout can help rehydrate your body and support optimal bodily functions.
In summary, good nutrition as well as hydration before and after working out is crucial for promoting optimal performance. Now this is just the tip of the iceberg, as there is so much more to learn, and we will be sharing this information with our athletes and the parents so you can help us create a healthy lifestyle for these athletes.
